Nairobi (The Saharaa) – A devastating collision between two aircrafts at Nairobi National Park has resulted in at least two fatalities, while miraculously leaving 44 others unscathed. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through the aviation community and prompting immediate investigations into the cause.
One of the aircrafts involved was identified as a Dash 8 owned by Safari Link, which was en route to Diani with a total of 44 passengers and crew on board. The other aircraft was a Cessna plane engaged in a training session, carrying two individuals. Tragically, the Cessna crashed within the confines of the park, while the Dash 8 managed to safely land back at Wilson Airport. Both aircrafts had departed from Wilson Airport prior to the collision, as confirmed by officials.
According to authorities, the collision resulted in the loss of two lives. Safarilink Aviation, however, has affirmed that none of their passengers sustained injuries during the ordeal.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, Safarilink Aviation provided details of the event: “Safarilink Aviation wishes to report that this morning at 9:45 Local Time our flight number 053 with 39 passengers and 5 crew on board headed to Diani experienced a loud bang soon after take-off. The crew decided to immediately turn back to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for further inspection and assessment and landed safely. There were no casualties reported.”
The aviation operator also indicated that relevant agencies had been notified and that a joint investigation with Safarilink Aviation was underway to ascertain the cause of the collision.
The collision has prompted widespread concern and calls for heightened safety measures within Kenya’s aviation sector. As investigations continue, authorities are working diligently to ensure that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
