Bong County Health Team, in collaboration with the County Administration through the Ministry of health, has officially launched a vaccination campaign exercise against the Monkeypox virus in the county.
The campaign follows a recent confirmation of an Mpox case in the County, and is geared towards a significant step forward in the County’s ongoing response to protect its vulnerable populations, and to prevent the spread of the Virus.
Speaking at the start of the launch on Tuesday June 3, 2025, Director of the Community Health Division of the County Health Team, Mr. Gayflor Sumo Nyangwebah, announced that the County Health Team has received 200 doses of the Mpox vaccine from the Ministry of Health.
He stated that the 200 doses will be administered primarily to individuals who have had contact with suspected and confirmed cases of the virus, including frontline health workers.
“These 200 doses will be used to primarily target individuals who have had closed contact with confirmed Mpox patients as well as front-line health workers who are at risk” he said
Mr. Nyangwebah further revealed that Bong County has so far recorded two confirmed cases of the Monkeypox virus, one at C.D. Dunbar Hospital and another at Phebe Hospital seeking treatment in separate isolations.
According to him, the confirmed cases originated from the communities of Denta in Jorquelleh District Two and Dutaii in Electoral District One with a call for citizens to keep taking prevent measures in the County to avoid the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, the County ‘s Administrator Samuel Elliott who proxy for Superintendent Loleyah Hawah Norris officially launched the rolling out of the vaccine, and acknowledged the proactive role surveillance officer and healthcare providers are carrying out to protect the County from the Virus.
This vaccine roll-out is a critical step forward in protecting our people, that’s while we as County’s administration continue to strengthening collaboration with the County health team to contain the virus.
The launch of the Mpox virus in the County is part of broader efforts to enhancing the capacities of Health practitioners in containing the spread of the virus as citizens are now living in fear amid two confirmed cases in the County.
