Gbartala, Bong County— The management of Radio Gbartala in Yellequelleh District Bong County has made a clarion call to the County’s administration including Media authorities in Liberia to provide supports to the institution.
Speaking at its 13th anniversary celebration held at the station’s compound on June 28, 2025 in Gbartala, the Radio Station’s Manager Peter D. Johnson stated that the institution was established in 2012 aimed at providing fresh-hands information to the People of not only yellequelleh District, but Bong County and parts adjacent through professional programs broadcasting services.
He stated that at the moment the Station has no major source of support for its sustainability except for petite cash generated through the sales of Request forms, Public Service Announcements, and the airing of jingles from business partners which he said cannot sustain the operations of the station.
“we are really suffering here my people, to maintain a Radio Station is not anything easy especially when you don not have support like us” Manager Peter Johnson asserted.
“The only support we are getting here is the little money we get from the sales of request forms, airing of Public Service announcements and jingles, we really need your support please” He noted.
During the occasion, Manager Johnson named the renovation works on the station’s facility, the purchasing of new broadcast equipment such as transmitter, head phones and microphones, electricity supplies, and mobility amongst other issues as some major challenges confronting Radio Gbartala.
“you see this building here, we want change it to a better structure, and we are lacking of broadcast equipment including motorbikes for mobility” Johnson told the gathering.
He used the occasion to rally Media stakeholders and the Leadership of the County to help provide some supports to augment their operations.
Guest speaking at the program, former two terms Bong County District five Representative Edward Karfiah lauded the work force at the station for their longstanding professional services to Community development and challenged them to remain independent in the discharge of their functions void of political interplay.
He believes doing so will provide a level playing filed for the voices of every citizens to be heard, a move he said has continue to define the status of Radio Gbartala as a Community Radio Station.
In a show of support to its services, Bong County district two Representative James M. Kolleh donated one hundred thousand(L$100,000) with a pledge of one motor bike and additional pledge of L$100,000 while District five Representative Eugine J.MKollie presented a cheque of fifty thousand Liberia dollars, and challenged the management of the station to do an estimate leading to renovation works on the facility and revert to his office.
Radio Gbartala has continue to reduce transportation burdens on community members who in times past struggled to carry announcements and other important public information to Radio Stations in Gbarnga, where more Radio Stations are situated.
