Monrovia (The Saharaa) – The collaborative efforts between GiveDirectly-Liberia and Liberia’s Ministry of Health took a significant step forward as Mr. Joseph Yarsiah, the Country Director of GiveDirectly-Liberia, along with Madam Lamia Rashid, GiveDirectly Regional Director covering India, Bangladesh, Kenya, and Mozambique, and Mr. Swaliho Kamara, Senior Manager of GiveDirectly-Liberia paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, the Health Minister, at the Ministry of Health.
The visit served as a platform for GiveDirectly to provide updates on their ongoing
initiatives in Liberia, with a particular focus on the health sector. Mr. Joseph Yarsiah, the
Country Director, emphasized the importance of providing mental health training aimed
at enhancing community awareness of mental health issues and ultimately improving
healthcare outcomes across Liberia.
GiveDirectly, a nonprofit donor program supported by USAID is dedicated to providing
direct cash transfers to individuals living in poverty, with the overarching goal of
accelerating the end of extreme poverty globally.
During the meeting, Mr. Joseph Yarsiah reiterated GiveDirectly’s steadfast commitment and unwavering support to the Liberian Government, particularly in the health sector. In
response, Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto extended her appreciation to Mr. Yarsiah
and his team on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. and the Ministry of
Health for their continued dedication and support to Liberia. Dr. Louise M. Kpoto underscored the importance of collaboration and strong partnerships between GiveDirectly, health partners, donors, philanthropists, and government institutions. She emphasized the collective responsibility to address critical healthcare challenges and improve public health outcomes by advancing healthcare services and promoting community well-being.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to working together
to address the pressing healthcare needs of Liberia’s population. Through collaborative
efforts and sustained partnerships, GiveDirectly and Liberia’s Ministry of Health aim to
make significant strides in enhancing healthcare delivery and fostering overall
community health and well-being.
