The Movement with Integrity for National Development (MIND) has urged the Liberian Senate to prioritize a communication from Grand Kru County Senator, Prof. Albert Chie, advocating for the revitalization of domestic airports. MIND asserts that prioritizing this agenda item will facilitate easier travel for Liberians within the leeward counties via domestic flights.
Highlighting the significance of addressing issues surrounding Liberia’s domestic airports, MIND emphasizes that rehabilitating these airports will not only enhance economic activities but also enable lawmakers to regularly engage with their constituents without enduring long hours on the roads.
MIND stresses the importance of the relevant Senate Committees, including Transport, Public Works, Ways and Means, Finance, and Budget, to give due consideration to Senator Chie’s communication. They believe that engaging the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) will provide valuable insights into revamping domestic flights, thereby bolstering the tourism sector and attracting investors.
Commending Senator Chie for his initiative to revamp local airlines, which have been dormant since the 1990s, MIND applauds his efforts in addressing the deplorable state of domestic airports and advocating for budget allocations to expedite their rehabilitation.
This statement was issued by MIND in Monrovia following the reading of Senator Chie’s communication in the Liberian Senate’s plenary session at the Capitol Building.
