Monrovia, Liberia – As leaders of various Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions strategize on enhancing productivity and prioritizing employees’ welfare, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, has announced significant structural changes aimed at ensuring greater efficiency and effectiveness within his ministry.
According to a press statement from the Ministry, Minister Paye has expanded the media arm from a single-person operation to a unit with a staff strength of four. This expansion is part of a broader initiative to enhance the Ministry’s visibility and ensure the public is well-informed about its activities and developments. “Given the workload at the Ministry, which oversees mining activities and the energy sector, it is prudent to have more than one journalist handling public information,” Paye explained. “Our administration is restructuring the Ministry’s information portals, including a brand-new website and social media handles.”
During a strategic planning workshop with his senior staff, Minister Paye emphasized the importance of effective communication in fulfilling the Ministry’s mandate. “The government has a responsibility to keep the public informed at all times,” he said. “This move is intended to make the Ministry’s deliverance more visible to the public.”
In addition to bolstering the media unit, Minister Paye has established a legal unit comprising three professional lawyers. This legal team will be responsible for reviewing all legal instruments, including the mineral and mining laws, drafting national energy policy, and other regulations through which the Ministry operates. “This move will ensure that the Ministry is on top of its game in terms of adequate legal representation,” Paye stated. “We need to ensure all our legal instruments are up to date and in line with current national and international standards.”
The strategic action plan introduced by Minister Paye addresses a wide range of issues that he and his administrators aim to tackle under the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. This comprehensive plan is expected to enhance the Ministry’s overall productivity and ensure the welfare of its employees.
A senior staff member at the Ministry, who requested anonymity, expressed optimism about the changes. “Minister Paye’s initiatives are a step in the right direction. Strengthening our media and legal units will undoubtedly improve our operations and public engagement,” the staff member said.
Thomas Doe, a senior journalist with one of Liberia’s leading newspapers, commented on the expansion of the media unit: “It’s refreshing to see the Ministry of Mines and Energy taking communication seriously. With more journalists on board, the public will be better informed about the Ministry’s activities and achievements.”
Minister Paye’s efforts to restructure and enhance the Ministry come at a crucial time when efficiency and transparency in government operations are paramount. By prioritizing effective communication and legal oversight, the Ministry of Mines and Energy aims to set a new standard for public service in Liberia.
“We are committed to making the Ministry more effective and efficient,” Minister Paye concluded. “These changes are just the beginning. We will continue to implement strategies that will not only improve our operations but also benefit the people of Liberia.”
The Ministry’s new strategic direction is expected to foster greater public trust and ensure that the nation’s mining and energy sectors are managed with the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.
