Monrovia (The Saharaa) – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has initiated a comprehensive investigation into a series of thefts involving the mysterious disappearance of truckloads of 40-foot containers from the Freeport of Monrovia. Police Director Gregory Coleman confirmed that all drivers implicated in the recent incident, which included the theft of rice, have been apprehended and are currently under police scrutiny.
Sekou Dukuly, Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), disclosed to The Saharaa that the incident transpired three days ago, prompting the transfer of the case to the LNP for further investigation.
In a statement issued by the NPA management, it was acknowledged that the organization is fully cognizant of an ongoing investigation regarding the disappearance of a consignment of rice from its facility, allegedly orchestrated by unscrupulous individuals.
Insiders familiar with the matter have disclosed to The Saharaa that the rice theft is just one of several incidents unearthed by the new port management team. It has been reported that unauthorized port users and vehicles lacking access passes have been circumventing security measures to carry out large-scale theft of various commodities within the port premises.
Responding to these distressing revelations, port management has announced intentions to bolster security measures, fortify access controls, and implement advanced surveillance systems to deter future incidents. Reports indicate that unauthorized individuals have targeted products such as Tsingtao Beer, Fiesta Condensed Milk, and Fiesta Fresh from A-Z Cooperation Company within the National Port Authority’s perimeter.
Recent security footage captured a vehicle without proper access credentials entering the port premises on March 5th. Subsequently, on March 6th, security personnel intercepted the same vehicle as it attempted to exit the port, leading to the apprehension of its occupants believed to be involved in the thefts.
During interrogation, evidence linking the suspects to the stolen goods was reportedly uncovered, including items matching those reported missing from A-Z Cooperation Company. Sources close to the investigation have indicated that significant progress has been made, with recovered stolen goods providing crucial support for the prosecution of the suspects.
Moreover, witness statements corroborating the events and detailing the involvement of unauthorized individuals underscore the importance of community cooperation in combatting criminal activities within the port premises. Nevertheless, the investigation has also highlighted vulnerabilities in existing security protocols, particularly concerning access control and monitoring of port entrances.
The ease with which unauthorized individuals gained entry and engaged in criminal activities underscores the urgent necessity for stricter enforcement of access regulations and the implementation of additional security measures, such as enhanced perimeter fencing and surveillance technology.
As this story continues to unfold, The Saharaa remains committed to providing updates as more information becomes available.
